a smile

Here’s a short and sweet Jordan story that I feel like sharing with the world:

Today I went to the electricity company to pay my monthly bill. I walked up to the counter and the guy handling the cash register had a strange look on his face.

“I’d like to pay my bill.”

He nodded, his face still somewhat disbelieving.

“Is everything okay?” I asked.

“Yeah. It’s just this is the first smile I have seen all day,” he responded, laughing.

I hadn’t even noticed I had been smiling until he said that. I think it’s because I am from the Midwest and we are mostly just taught to smile at people.

I am not sure if the story has a point. And maybe it’s not appropriate to always be smiling here. But at least today I felt like it brightened someone else’s day, and that even a small dose of positive energy can be contagious.
